About CART

Our mission is to unite volunteers and individuals dedicated to enhancing the Columbus, Nebraska, community by fostering outdoor recreation and promoting fitness. Through the development and maintenance of trails, we aim to create accessible pathways that inspire active lifestyles, connect people with nature, and enrich the well-being of our residents.

A bit of history.

There is an extensive system of recreational trails throughout the city and adjoining areas. CART was formed in the mid-1990s to provide coordination of funding and the maintenance of a master plan of development for these trails. These trails provide local residents a safe setting for the healthy activities of hiking, biking, running, and rollerblading. Trail development is ongoing.

This trail system is being constructed under the leadership of Columbus Area Recreational Trails, Inc. CART is a S 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization. CART is composed of a group of volunteers who envision a series of human-powered transportation and recreation routes through the community of Columbus, Nebraska.

Regular meetings are held every second Tuesday of January, April, July, and October at 5:15 p.m. Meeting notices are posted in local media, on the CART Facebook page, and on the website, here. All are welcome.
